The Prepared Childbirth class is for mothers-to-be who are patients delivering at The University of Kansas Health System. Childbirth coaches and support persons are encourage to attend.
This two-part class starts Saturday, March 7 from 8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. with the second class on the following Saturday, March 14 from 8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
One of the highlights of our class is a tour of the Labor and Delivery and Mother-Baby units. The class will include information about the process of labor and birth, relaxation and breathing techniques, comfort measures and variations that may occur during labor and delivery. We'll also discuss the use of analgesia and anesthesia.
Infant information such as newborn appearance, circumcision, cord care, bathing, diapering, sleep, safety, crying, soothing and what to expect in the first few weeks at home will also be covered.
